Over the years I have spent 1000's of hours designing and writing out various diet plans. Every time I go through the process I try to improve it and make it work better for the individual. I always put a lot of thought into it. Hoping to finally reach the perfect diet one day which works for everyone.
Unfortunately the more work I put into these diets and alike the more complicated and difficult they become. I have probably over thought it. People NEED to get the basics right that's all it will take initially for a lot of people.
People want simple things, NOT complex. People want a summary, NOT a manual.
People have less time than ever. So today I will give you a look at some of the most SIMPLE diets I have ever seen.
*please note you should always see your GP before making any major changes to your diet and lifestyle, ESPECIALLY if you have any health problems*
1. Only eat if it has a Face or is Green
Brief explanation: you can eat animals or green vegetables
2. Intermittent Fasting. 5:2, 4:3, 2:5 (Days eating normal: Days fasting)
Brief explanation: Skip breakfast and eat 1-2 light meals a day for 2 non consecutive days and eat normally for 5 days. This has now been progressed to 4:3 and even 2:5 or in other words, 2 light meals for 5 days (Mon-Fri) and eat normal (whatever that is) for 2 days.
3. Proper Fasting. 1-3 days at a time.
This is the real deal. Don't eat anything for a set period of time. Just drink water, or hot drink and take a multivitamin of some sort. When you come off the fast you eat a sensible diet and don't binge eat.
4. Paleo or (Healthy) Atkins
Brief Explanation: There are lots of slightly different versions of this approach, but in the mainstay they are the same. High protein, low carbohydrate. On the cave man diet/healthy Atkins you eat mostly meat and vegetables, plus nuts seeds, eggs, fish, herbs and spices.
5. Going vegetarian/vegan part-time.
The vegetarian or vegan diet used for half the time, can give you a huge boost in health and weight loss.
For some people doing any of the above diets for a few weeks would make them feel better, after all the average person loves to have a few treats right?
Most diets would work for most people and ultimately the BEST diet is the one you can stick to. You have to be able to stick to it, because it is a way of life, it is forever, it has to be sustainable and not something you can do only do for a few weeks or months at a time.
A good diet:
-Improves your health
-Helps you lose weight/stay in shape
-Makes you feel generally better
-Leaves a mark for the long term and makes permanent lasting changes
-Is enjoyable and tasty
-Gets easier the longer you do it (not harder)
-Keeps the weight off for good
As long as your diet delivers on the above it will be doing you good. So if you want to come up with your own version of a diet, personal to you have a go.
Make up your own rules as long as it works for you.
Some people I know have never really dieted and exercise and have NEVER changed weight very much.
When I enquire "how?' they say things like "as soon as I go over 11 stone or whatever I cut down on X or I don't eat Y".
Good luck.
